Doc Says July 26, 2006

The first doctor’s visit went well.  It put alot of my anxieties to rest.  The baby is measuring 7w2d, which as of yesterday was exactly what I calculated it to be.  We saw a flash on the sonogram and that was the heartbeat.  We get to actually hear it next time we go in four weeks.  It’s so strange to know that there is a tiny little person inside of me with an actual beating heart.  I feel like an alien host.  I know everyone says that but until it’s actually happening to you, you cannot possibly understand it.  I can’t believe we won’t know the sex until October.  The doctor said that he could tell one of his patient’s was having a boy as early as ten weeks!  That’s amazing considering most people don’t find out until 18-20 weeks.  Oh well, gotta go clean the house now.

Cravings July 24, 2006

Very specific cravings.  Very weird.  I cannot wait until things don’t gross me out anymore.  Food aversions are harder to deal with than cravings for sure.  I still don’t really like sweet stuff.  So far, I have wanted:

  • Canned pineapple chunks.
  • Funyuns.
  • Pickles.
  • A Sonic banana split with only fudge and nuts.
  • SteakUms.

A little while ago he asked me if I planned on eating healthier “any time soon for the baby”. Maybe when I quit feeling like puking.  God.  I still want to punch him.

It’s a boy if:

  • You didn’t experience morning sickness in early pregnancy  (None so far.  Knock on wood)
  • Your baby’s heart rate is less than 140 beats per minute
  • You are carrying the extra weight out front
  • Your belly looks like a basketball
  • Your areolas have darkened considerably
  • You are carrying low
  • You are craving salty or sour foods  (Yep)
  • You are craving protein — meats and cheese
  • Your feet are colder than they were before pregnancy
  • The hair on your legs has grown faster during pregnancy  (I have to shave everyday now.)
  • Your hands are very dry  (Yep.)
  • Your pillow faces north when you sleep
  • Dad-to-be is gaining weight, right along with you
  • Pregnancy has you looking better than ever  (My skin is doing really really well.)
  • Your urine is bright yellow in color
  • Your nose is spreading
  • You hang your wedding ring over your belly and it moves in circles
  • You are having headaches (constantly)
  • You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an even number (36)

It’s a girl if:

  • You had morning sickness early in pregnancy
  • Your baby’s heart rate is at least 140 beats per minute
  • You are carrying the weight in your hips and rear
  • Your left breast is larger than your right breast
  • Your hair develops red highlights
  • You are carrying high
  • Your belly looks like a watermelon
  • You are craving sweets
  • You are craving fruit
  • You crave orange juice
  • You don’t look quite as good as normal during pregnancy
  • You are moodier than usual during pregnancy
  • Your face breaks out more than usual
  • You refuse to eat the heel of a loaf of bread
  • Your breasts have really blossomed!
  • Your pillow faces south when you sleep
  • Your urine is a dull yellow color
  • You hang your wedding ring over your belly and it moves from side to side
  • You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an odd number

I will start posting belly pics once there is a difference to be seen.  Don’t worry.  There will be a slideshow.

I just played around with another calculator and since I ovulate later than most folks, I actually conceived a week later than I “should” have so that changes my dates a bit.  My due date would actually change to the 11th of March (also my Pop’s birthday) and that would make me be 6 weeks pregnant.  That means I have to relive the week that I just lived.  That also means that I am only half way through my 1st trimester instead of just over half.  Egads!

7 Weeks July 18, 2006

I have lived the same day over and over for the past two weeks. I get up, eat, lay around, eat again, shower, try to sleep, get on the computer, try to sleep again, get back on the computer, watch some TV, and then get in bed and toss and turn until finally I fall asleep. This is usually around 10am. It sucks so much. Ugh.  It’s like the movie Groundhog’s Day.  I feel like crap when I do go out and do something though.  I feel like I did when I was recovering from pnuemonia last year.  I feel like my heart is racing and I’m really hot and I can’t do much before I want to go home.

My sense of smell is so strong at this point.  I smelled the seafood section of the grocery store tonight as soon as we walked in and we were nowhere near it.  I keep wrinkling up my face and saying “ugh, what is that?” and Elvee says that he doens’t smell anything at all.  I think that’s why so many things repulse me as far as food goes right now.  I smell it way before it gets anywhere near my mouth.

Next Tuesday is the first doctor’s appointment.  I am so nervous that everything will be okay.  Lots of people have babies and everything turns out fine.  I just have to remember that.

1. My boobs do not even feel like they belong to me. They are definitely bigger and it hurts to even look at them. I think woman that didn’t have very big ones before pregnancy welcome them to be bigger, but women that were already pretty big cannot imagine a cup size that is that far down the alphabet!

2. Anything that is sweet grosses me out. I’ve tried numerous times to eat fruit and I just get totally grossed out. Things don’t taste the same anymore.

3. Still not sleeping. At all. I am awake most nights until 5:30am. I don’t get much done around here, as you can imagine.

4. My internal temperature is apparently very high. It is never cool enough inside for me. I can barely go in public anymore because every place is too hot.

I have been having the most vivid dreams/nightmares.  They play out in my head like a movie and feel so real.  Nine months of this seems so completely surreal.

Bigger Than Me July 7, 2006

New symptoms: shooting pains in my left boob and queasiness at night.

So many decisions to make. Need to get a cheap car so I can afford diapers.  I am seriously considering getting something mega cheap and mega ugly that gets good gas mileage so I can have the money that we spend on gas and the money that we spend on my high ass payment for the baby.

Elvee is so excited now.  I never expected him to be this excited this soon.  He plays the name game with me, which I’m sure can be annoying since I change my mind every five minutes.  He goes everywhere with me when I run errands and he feeds me the crazy stuff that I want right now.  Nothing sounds good to me so eating has become an adventure.  When we hang up on the phone or go to bed at night he tells me “I love ya’ll”.  It’s too cute.  He has even decided which carseat would look best in his truck.
